Illinois Health Insurance Exchange – a Partnership Exchange
The Illinois health insurance exchange will operate as a state-federal partnership in the first year (2014).
- Consumer advocates in Illinois hope that after the first year, the state will run its own exchange, instead of having a partnership exchange with the federal government.
- It is estimated that 1.9 million people in Illinois are uninsured (about 15% of the state’s total population).
- The Illinois Health Insurance Partnership Exchange is expected to enroll over 485,000 people in the first year.
